Teachers

The teachers who lead the levels

Six teachers lead classes. These three lead the levels, and you will meet them at the placement visit.

  • Lenore Webster, the director, holding a pair of pointe shoes beside the barre

    Lenore Webster

    Director

Lenore danced with ballet companies before she began teaching, and has directed the program since it opened. She teaches the Advanced and Pre-professional levels and meets every family at the placement visit.

  • Danilo Carrera, the ballet master, in a black tank top and wide-leg joggers

    Danilo Carrera

    Ballet master, Foundation and Intermediate

Danilo teaches ballet technique and repertoire at the first two levels. He is the teacher most dancers meet first, and he runs the Saturday morning classes.

  • Misaki Hattori, the contemporary teacher, in a black tank top and wide-leg joggers

    Misaki Hattori

    Contemporary and conditioning

Misaki teaches contemporary technique and floor work at every level, and the conditioning classes in the week. She asks every dancer to tell her about pain before or during class.

How we teach

What the teachers ask of every class

  • Technique first

Every class starts with a warm-up and moves from simple to difficult. Dancers learn why a step works before they speed it up.

  • Rehearsal habits

Dancers learn to mark a piece, to count, to take a correction and to try it again. Those are the habits an audition class asks for.

  • Honest conversations

Teachers talk with dancers and families directly about level, hours and school load, and put the decision in writing.
